State Representative Mike Shaw today announced his campaign for re‑election to the Alabama House of Representatives, pledging to continue delivering practical, future‑focused representation for Hoover and Vestavia Hills. Since his election in 2022, Shaw has built a record of supporting responsible tax relief, data privacy and cybersecurity, public safety, and common sense innovation.
Shaw has been a strong advocate for cutting taxes, including Alabama’s historic reduction of the state sales tax on groceries. “Families deserve relief and a government that respects their hard work,” Shaw said. “I’ll keep pushing to finish the job on the grocery tax and give local communities the flexibility to lower their own burdens.”
Public safety and modernization: Shaw sponsored the False Reporting Law enacted after the 2023 Carlee Russell case, making it a Class C felony to knowingly make a false report that alleges imminent danger and requiring restitution to law enforcement. He also sponsored the Office of Information Technology modernization bill to passage, expanding OIT’s role to include statewide cybersecurity coordination and consolidating core IT functions — strengthening Alabama’s digital defenses and protecting citizen data.
Next‑generation tech & innovation: Shaw serves on the Governor’s Task Force on Generative AI, the Alabama Blockchain Study Commission and cryptocurrency policy work, and co‑sponsored the resolution creating the Alabama Quantum Evaluation Task Force to assess economic opportunities in quantum computing. “We can be a state that welcomes innovation while protecting Alabamians’ privacy and security,” Shaw said.
Closer to home, Shaw has directed over $500,000 in grants to local schools, parks and civic projects across District 47. A Vestavia Hills High School graduate and former Hoover City Council member, Shaw added, “District 47 is my home. I know our community deserves steady, common‑sense leadership that keeps neighborhoods safe, grows jobs, and preserves the quality of life we love. I look forward to continuing this effort and I humbly ask for your vote in 2026.”
